School of Mosaics - classes and workshop

Mosaic Courses: Each course covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of making Mosaics. Courses have a minimum of 8 participants and a maximum of 12. At the beginning of the course, students are provided with the equipment and materials needed, along with instructions for their use.

At the end of the course each student will be given the art work which they have completed, written study materials, as well as a certificate of attendance

The program of the Basic Mosaic Course includes

• Brief introduction to the history of mosaics, their evolution as well as their application in contemporary art
• Planning of an artistic work: copy of an ancient Roman mosaic
• Preparation of the design and of the mold for the chosen subject
• Choice and cutting of stone materials for mosaics using traditional instruments, such as chisel and small hammer.
• Completion of mosaic using technique of direct application on temporary stucco · Gluing of the cloths
• Placing of mosaic on its final support
• Finishing

The Program of the Advance mosaic Course includes 

• Planning of the artistic work: translation into mosaic of a design or sketch by the student
• Preparation of the design and of the mold for the chosen subject
• Choice and cutting of materials: marbles, enamels, gold and silver, cut using traditional instruments such as chisel and small hammer.
• Completion of mosaic using appropriate production techniques
• Placing mosaic on its final support
• Finishing
