> Mosaic Art Antique Mosaic ArtMosaic Art - Byzantine & Roman mosaic Painting with stones Frammenti laboratory of Mosaic Art rigorously produces every manufact working in the ancient Mediaeval-Byzantine tradition. This choice comes not only from the passional nostalgy of the past, but also from the persuasion that "no machine could ever realize a work better than human hands ". These only can create an exclusive, original, inimitable object, namely an object which is equal to itself only. At the same time the laboratory has the purpose of handing down representative works, which could give impulse to design and architecture.
For all these reasons, Frammenti art laboratory has been welcomed by artists, architects, people, public institutions and all those who have the desire of turning to account their environments with a note of ancient charm, but without losing modern functionality. Collaborations with artists can be cited: Adolph Deville Aldo Mondino Leonardo Pivi Luca Volpi To see our mosaic production please visit our >>> MOSAIC ART GALLERY How We Make Our Mosaics:Frammenti art does not use pre-made mosaic tiles or machine-made tesserae unless a client specifically requests them or for a few specific architectural applications (such as swimming pool walls, fountains, and other architectural applications). Instead, we use stone slabs coming from Carrara caves in Italy. These slabs are chipped into tesserae by hand with the help of the hammer shown in the image, not by machines. As a result, the tesserae differ slightly in shape and size. We use the smaller tesserae where the image requires more detail, and we use stones with many shades of color so that we can match them together to create shadows and textures in the mosaic. The cost of a mosaic is driven in large part by the level of detail in the image. The greater the detail, the smaller the tesserae required. This means more tesserae, more shades of colors, more matching, more placing and thus more time spent creating the image. The size of the mosaic itself is only a secondary factor in determining the cost of a mosaic. You can propose us your image. Simply select the image from a book or a photo, and email it to us together with:
a) the desired size of the mosaic, We will then provide you with an estimate. Please note that we will need to know how the mosaic will be used (on the floor or wall) before we can make it as mosaics for different positions are crafted differently. For example, it is essential that mosaics that will be walked on be as flat as possible, while wall mosaics are angled slightly to catch light. We can prepare your mosaic in any of the following methods:
